Trends Predicted: How to Style Your Home in 2024

January 18, 2024

I know, you’ve seen everything “2024” already, but we are pretty careful to predict anything without research. Remember when everyone tiled their countertops with ceramic tile?  Yeah… we try to make recommendations carefully and in ways that are approachable and livable, not just because some person gets bored and says let’s go neon!

So, here you go and hopefully, we have offered ways to bring these trends into your home in ways that actually function to your lifestyle

Stone backsplash –

I don’t mean marble, I mean actual stone. It’s a bit rustic (keep it light to reflect natural light and not feel like a cave dweller. It also is a little south of France which can be pretty timeless and I bet no one you know has this yet.

Decorating tones-

We are headed back to the warmer tones. Grays have saturated the market so the switch will start to happen. Browns, rusts, salmons, beige, and marigolds all come in strong. Not sure how long that will last as these colors seem to go fast and furious. But just like fashion, home design is driven by the trendsetters and we have an entire generation that did not live through the Brady bunch house or threes company – expect to see some of those influences (’60s/70s/80s) coming back in the updated way

Tile flooring with some pizazz.

Tiles for the Laundry rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and entryways are getting their day in the sun.
On that note: zellge is here to stay!

Our recent Lake House Chic renovation

We also love the black and white checked tile. It has remained a contender throughout history. You will find it in the austere mansions of yesteryear (Gilded Ages, anyone) and you will still see in it its designs today. Black and white is a timeless style.

Fixtures –

Did you just install all brass? Well, first of all, it is here to stay for a while so don’t panic. However, for those that have not updated their nickel or love pewter: it’s coming back. That doesn’t mean the faucet you have from 2001 is back in style – the look will have changed to a sleek updated version. The good news? You don’t have to change all of those hinges on your interior doors.

Our recent renovation

Fluted…

well, anything. We see it in the cabinets everywhere. That said, it may feel like a huge commitment so give It a try on a table in your entry or guest room or a cabinet in the powder room first.

Bathrooms-

Let’s talk powder rooms. We are going back to traditional and elegant with some pow! Think of the console vanities and glam wallpaper. We will still be giving your guests something to talk about. (Console vanity is key)

Mudrooms-

Hide the stuff behind cabinet doors. A word from an expert: ensure you have venting on those doors. Soccer cleats and running shoes need room to breathe or it can get pretty nasty when you open that door. Also, make sure you have a charging station. Many people want to leave their stuff at the door and iPads need charging before you leave the next morning,  (decorative vents can add panache definitely make sure to include that)

Lighting-

Harsh overhead lighting needs to take a back seat. Canned lighting and bright overhead fixtures have a place (think when you are cleaning something up or you dropped something ) but in spaces that you live in, you need layers. We have so much exposure to lights (screen time is at an all-time high which is very stimulating) you have to be able to shut down with dimmers, lamps, sconces, and ambient lighting that helps us unwind.)

Bedding:

We love the simple white bedding. It looks timeless, but just like that simple black dress needs great shoes and accessories, so does a simple white bed. It can be an easy switch: a colored throw, some pillows with panache, colored sheets folded back, or a tray with a few stylish accessories (or all of it! ) IF color is not your jam in the bedroom might we suggest texture on top of texture with some more texture thrown in?

Focal walls-

say bye-bye if you are not willing to commit. If you want wallpaper or a custom millwork space: do it all. I know – it can make you a little nervous, am I right? But, start small – go big in a small space – a laundry room a powder room, or an entryway. Check out this dining room: not only is it all of the walls but it is BLACK. And, it is STUNNING. One wall would have been a little disappointing.
This home office will be AMAZING when it is done and bold with SW color. Side note> Check back – we are doing full BOLD wallpaper on all walls in three more rooms of this new lake home.

will stay for another year.

Our recent Lakehouse project

More layers in your accessories.

A hint of vintage styled with new in a way that is not cluttered. Shelf styling should tell a bit of your story and share your interests in a way that is an updated version of you. You have evolved from that high school trophy but you should still have things that make you feel happy in your home.

Bold colors keep poking their heads in.

While this can be stunning, it just may be too much for you. Try shades that reflect nature: blues and greens. You may gain that pop without feeling anxious and, if you want to scream, look at me, there are always reds and plums and dark teals to bring down the house.

Dark exteriors are holding strong.

we love the black with wood accents. I am still in favor of white brick with wood and black accents but the look of a dark house with great landscaping is pretty stunning and brings LOADS of curb appeal while setting yourself apart from the neighbors.
