Q) HOW DO I SCHEDULE MY PHONE OR VIDEO CALLS WITH MY DESIGNER?
A) After you purchase your Virtual Room Design, you will be sent a questionnaire to fill out, followed by an email to schedule your
first appointment.
Q WHAT IS THE DESIGN QUESTIONNAIRE?
A) Our questionnaire helps us get to the heart of your design goals so we can make the most of our time with you by collecting some helpful information before our call. We want to ensure we can meet the timeline and budgetary goals for your project as well prior to starting out together so we are respecting your time.
Q) WHAT APPLICATION(S) DO YOU USE FOR A VIDEO CALL?
A) Typically we use Zoom. If you are more comfortable with a face time call, that works just as well!
Q) WHY PURCHASE A VIRTUAL DESIGN PACKAGE INSTEAD OF USING A FREE DESIGN SERVICE FROM A RETAIL STORE.
A.) First of all, this is not intended to compete with a retail store. There are some talented folks in some of these stores. That said, this is intended to give you options from EVERYWHERE, not just the store I work for. It allows us to recommend any item as we are working for YOU. We also will recommend items and vendors that we know have solid S/H processes, good custom service and the items are well made. Lastly, because for 40 years we have been doing design. The only thing that has changed is technology and the clients we are fortunate enough to design with as now design is more attainable to more people!
Q) There are services out there that do e-design for 200.00. Why wouldn't I use them?
A.) See above. 40 years experience is a pretty big title to bring to the competition. We are like Heavy Weights in that ring. JOKING! That is, again, not to say that there aren't talented designers there. 100% there are. It isn't an accurate comparison. Our virtual service is modeled after our full service interior design. We are not in it to be the cheapest. We are the design firm that wants to be the right fit for you, bringing you the best investment for your home and have the records to stand on to show that we do that in all the design we offer to our clients, online or not. We are also very open about what is included and what is not, we do not add on fees after the fact unless they are something you knew about from the beginning. For example, one large well known site adds on fees if you want links to order the products in the design. I also know that some charge more for using any existing fees in the design because they make money on the items they show you. And, every big name I know has some sort of perk for the items they show you.
Q) HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE THE DESIGN STYLE OF SUTTON PLACE INTERIOR DESIGN.?
A.) We call our go to style casually elegant, lake house chic and modern farmhouse with some transitional thrown in for good measure. Seriously, we don't have one style because our clients do not have one style. I know sometimes you can look at a designer (shiplap anyone?) and immediately know who belongs with that design or who influenced it. That is a great way to design and market yourself. There is definitely a niche for that. It just isn't us. You are able to look at our portfolio page here to see some of our projects and for a glimpse into the transitions, check out the before and afters. A lot of design firms will say things like this:

Q HOW DO I KNOW WHAT PACKAGE IS RIGHT FOR ME?
Our design packages are setup to meet the needs of most homeowners. If you are uncertain that there isn't one for you, but want to work with Sutton Place Interior Design, give us a call! Our main package is the most popular one and if you are someone that needs the 3D visual, you can easily add that. If you only need a small area redone in a room, such as shelf styling, that is why we offer our mini virtual design package.

Q.) I SAW AN OPTION FOR A 3D ROOM DESIGN ADD ON. TELL ME ABOUT THAT.
A) This is a great way for a client to really know that they will be able to feel comfortable in all that they order and how the space will look. It is also an extra help when your items are delivered to place them in the correct spot. Lastly, it is really helpful for someone to use during a remodel because while the drawings are not guaranteed for construction (your contractor will be responsible for that) you can use them to see what that remodel will feel like. Quite often contractors do not offer this service and rely on clients to do that. Also, it is great to make copies and place in the space for your build team to refer to. This is incredibly helpful on our renovations and new builds with Sutton Place Homes.
THIS ENSURES ALMOST 100% SATISFACTION THAT YOU WILL LOVE THE FINAL DESIGN ONCE IT IS BROUGHT TO LIFE. IF YOU ARE WANTING TO KEEP A LOT OF YOUR EXISTING PIECES IN THE SPACE, WE WILL NOT OFFER THIS AS IT IS TOO COMPLICATED WITH DIMENSIONS AND DRAWING SOFTWARE. THIS IS A GREAT OPTION IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A COMPREHENSIVE NEW DESIGN WITHIN YOUR SPACE.

Q.) Can I BUY YOUR VIRTUAL INTERIOR DESIGN AS A GIFT FOR SOMEONE?
A,) Absolutely! We have seen it happen many times - it is a great gift for new home owners, we have realtors use it as a promotion with clients, we have family purchase for newlyweds or new parents. The one caveat is that SOMEONE has to do the work of gathering the information. We still need measurements and pictures, styles and answers to our questions. However, if this is a gift for someone, let us know and we can do a custom cover to the info gathering that makes it special and they can fill in later when they are ready to start. The service purchase will not expire but our availability may fluctuate. We will do our best to accommodate the design when they are ready to deliver on your gift!
Q) I AM BUILDING A HOUSE! HOW DOES THAT WORK WITH SUTTON PLACE INTERIOR DESIGN'S VIRTUAL DESIGN SERVICES?
We love working with new build homes and really understand what it takes to build a new home as we are a builder as well. We regularly work with clients in your same situation, you have to pick EVERYTHING ALL AT ONCE AND ONCE IT IS PICKED IT IS YOURS FOREVER! That is the most stressful part of the building process, more so than the dollars and the delays, for most people. Virtual Design is a great option to reduce this stress. We recommend you get started as soon as you know the spaces you would like help with. We can get started with your design as soon as you are ready so all of the questions are answered when your builder needs them and you can rest assured that the selections you make for one thing will work for everything else. Think roof color and three months later siding color and somewhere in there window color and now you made selections that look terrible together. Please note: WE NEED TO KNOW ALL THE VENDORS THAT YOU ARE SELECTING FROM. THIS MEANS PAINT COMPANY, COUNTERTOPS, TILE, FLOORING COMPANY, LIGHTING, ETC So we are seeing the same things you are. It does no one any good if we pick tile and you can't use it per your agreement with your home builder.
**PLEASE NOTE, WE DO NOT DO 3D DESIGNS FOR HOUSES UNDER CONSTRUCTION UNLESS YOUR BUILDER PROVIDES ALL PLANS AND MEASUREMENTS. IF YOUR DIMENSIONS CHANGE FOR ANY REASON, OUR DESIGN CONCEPT WILL NOT BE MODIFIED UNLESS NOTIFIED PRIOR TO START OF DESIGN PROCESS.
Q.) I may want to have more than one room designed. I might build a house and will need help making selections. I want to have you design my selections for the builder and the furnishings, how does that work?
A.) Wow, you ask a lot of questions. Kidding! We know you may have multiple areas that would be worth investing in. I can offer the simple answers and if you would like additional clarification, reach out to Andrea at suttonplaceals@gmail.com.
* We still price per room, even if you want us to design every room in the house. However,
*3+ rooms receive 10% off.
*6+ rooms receive 15% off.
* If you want us to pick builder selections and then furniture, we will require an order for two designs. We will take 25% off of the second order of the same room. (999.00 the first time, 750.00 the second time) BUT please know, with the exceptions of patio spaces, that hardly ever happens. Why? We are usually hired to do the heavy lifting in a new build. Example: The kitchen - the design is all builder selections with the exceptions of a barstool. Let us know at the time that you need those and we can select some. On the flip side, in a living room, you will need all furnishings with the exception of some lighting or a fireplace finish. Tell us and we will include that in our design. The biggest take away? Talk to us. We have the same goal: For you to be excited about your home and to be able to walk into it and love it from day one.
Q.) How soon should I place my virtual design order?
A.) That depends on your design needs and timeline. If we are giving your home a new look, we are ready when you are.
If you are building or remodeling, we need to talk through your timelines in more detail and most likely move in stages of priority. You can order all at once but designs will be completed as needed because first of all, there are priority answers that your contractor needs to know and secondarily unless you have a place to store all of the items we select to furnish your new home, we don't want to make selections a year in advance. Things may be discontinued or your space may change which can mean you order too few or too many barstools, both that will end up costing you money. The best advice? Lets communicate timeline and get a plan.
Q. I HAVE AN OPEN FLOOR PLAN MAIN CONCEPT, HOW MANY PACKAGES DO I NEED?
A.) We love open floor plans! This is our best answer: what are we doing in each space? if we are doing all of the living room but just a barstool in the kitchen, tell us that. We try to be reasonable. However, if scope creep begins to happe, say that kitchen starts to become barstools, lighting, backsplash, a new faucet and rugs, it will need to be ordered as an additional space. We highly recommend 2D plans in open concept as 3D may not be a great investment for you. Why? we arent really going to draw a lot of existing things in so it won't feel true to your space and when you do the 3D images, they dont translate well without walls, if that makes sense? It will only show the space that it was purchased for and will feel underdone. It is possible, of course, but I would save your dollars for elsewhere.
Q. HOW DO WE COMMUNICATE DURING THE DESIGN PROCESS?
A.) Email is our standard communication. We do not text or messenger with clients as it is too easy to miscommunicate. It is rare that we will have an emergency communication as we are not handling procurement. Broken items, delays and lost shipping will not be something we can help with. We can schedule a phone call if need be, of course. We usually stay off our phones and inboxes during evenings and weekends as a standard practice but will get back to you as soon as possible if you send us an email. And, if you happen to send one on the weekend, we may see it. Sometimes I send a message because I am thinking about it right then and do not want to forget. Do not hesitate to do that!
Q.) HOW DO I KNOW I WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE DESIGN?
A.) We stand behind our designs and want you to be happy. Part of this responsibility will be due to how well you communicate with us. We want to know everything and you can not share too much with us. Feel free to share a video instead of pictures of you like. We will make a few reasonable revisions within the parameter of the design. Let's say you really don't like the barstools we selected because they are all wicker. We are happy to find a few leather options. We do require that revision requests take place within 5 days of receipt of design. Because of our process to gather info and the extensive time and personalization we put into our designs as well as the digital nature of the purchase, we have a no refund policy. We come back to what we have said multiple times. We want you to be happy and if its a simple fix like you forgot you needed a bar sink faucet to coordinate with the main sink faucet, we will help you out.
Q.) WHAT IF I BUY ONE PACKAGE AND THEN DURING THE PROCESS DECIDE I WANT TO UPGRADE?
A) This happens sometimes. We are creatures that evolve and so does our style. Sometimes so do our bonuses at work! If an upgrade or add on is needed, tell us. We can work through it to make the added investment work for you. It might be as simple as ordering the additional amount for the designs you need. Email Andrea at Suttonplaceals@gmail.com .
Q) WHAT ARE YOUR TURN AROUND TIMES?
A.) These can vary depending on our client load and the scope of your design needs. Typically we say three weeks. Once we get started, it goes very quickly. The biggest hold up for clients is the questionnaire. We are stuck until we know the answers to these questions. If we do not get it back within a few weeks, we will email you to see if there is anything we can help you answer or remind you in case life took over. Sometimes we have clients that secure your spot in our line up for a future date for many reasons such as waiting for a new home to be built. That is completely fine. You will let us know when you want us to start and what your timeline looks like in your design questionnaire.
Q.) Why is Sutton Place Virtual Design less than full service design?
A. ) For multiple reasons. First of all, time. We are not driving to your project, presenting to you , driving back to our studio, that is hours of our time saved, Secondarily, you are handling all ordering, dealing with issues, working with contractors, staging the items. Your time is valuable, too. The savings on the full service design is your payment for your time of doing all of this!
Q.) Do I get your trade discounts and sources?
A.) We may utilize some of the items we would use from vendors we see as trade vendors as many are going to the main stream outlets, However, we do not use our trade accounts for our virtual design clients, The biggest reason is logistics. We do not handle the orders in virtual design and since many trade vendors require warehousing and short term delivery drivers for residential areas, it gets complicated - and expensive fast.
Q. CAN YOU WORK WITHIN ANY BUDGET?
We often receive a range of budgets from our clients and will keep yours in mind when designing. You will input your budget in your client questionnaire and we will do our best to stay within that budget. However, in an effort to keep communication open, we recommend a budget of 10,000, more likely 20,000 and up if we are selecting every item in the room. We try to give a completely comprehensive design which includes things like lamps and accessories and that can add up quickly. Remember things like curtain rods and rug pads. Not necessarily fun but definitely necessary and those can grow expensive. The good thing is our design package selects everything to complete your design - you are in control of what you actually buy. Maybe you wait for a sale, find a similar item that is less expensive or use your tax refund to splurge. We will do our best to keep your investment amount in mind but at the end of the day some give and take may need to happen. We want you to love your home but not if it means you can't eat for a year, Just know we will do our best to give you a great design that fits your lifestyle and if you tell us 5,000.00 we won't send back 500,000.00. If we can't do it within a fair amount that you have specified, we will notify you and see how we can accommodate before we start the design.
Q) WHAT KIND OF ONLINE BRANDS DO YOU SOURCE FROM?
A) Some of the places that we use in our designs are Restoration Hardware, Pottery Barn, McGee and Co, Serena and Lily, Crate & Barrel, Arhus, Rejuvenation, Anthropology, Lulu and Georgia, West Elm, and One Kings Lane. However, there so many companies out there, we will not guarantee that these are where we are sourcing from. Sometimes it may come from someplace such as Perigold or Kathy Kuo as they are selling something we know from a great vendor and they will offer white glove delivery, If there is a place you LOVE or you HATE, please let us know.
Q) WHAT IF SOMETHING GOES OUT OF STOCK AFTER I RECEIVE MY DESIGN?
A.) We do our best to ensure that all items within your design are in stock at the time of the presentation. Unfortunately, due to the nature of online shopping there is a risk. . We highly encourage clients to purchase the items they love immediately after finalizing a design. We hate seeing clients fall in love with some thing and then it goes out of stock. After the five business day revision period for issues or minor changes, we charge a $100.00 item sourcing fee. If something is out of stock within those 5 days and needs to be replaced in your design? Done. We will send over options that are similar in style and cost.
Q. WHAT IF I AM NOT HAPPY WITH AN ITEM ONCE I RECEIVE IT IN PERSON? WHAT IF IT COMES IN BROKEN?
A.) With any type of online purchase, there is always a chance that an item could look different online or on the design board than it does in real life. Sometimes, and it is rare, but an online website will have an inaccurate measurement or the wrong thing will get shipped. For instance, a white chair arrives instead of a blue one. All items from your designs will be from well-known retailers that allow and facilitate returns. Please do not worry as we do not show things from websites or vendors that do not have customer service and return policies. Before you order items, we do recommend that you become familiar with what those policies are in case you have an issue. Of course, we want you to avoid any returns and to love everything you order, but that is part of doing virtual design and part of why the cost is less up front : you will have to resolve any issues that occur during the procurement phase. We wish every day that it didn't, but it comes with the territory.
Q HOW DOES SELECTING PAINT COLORS WORK WITH VIRTUAL DESIGN?
A.) We will recommend various paint and stain options for your spaces. We will send a few options that we recommend as they may translate differently in your studio than they do your space. If this is needed for your home, we highly recommend testing colors and obtaining samples of paint in the colors that we recommend we are adamant that our clients need to sample before making the final selection because every space and computer screen shows color differently. What is underneath the paint will affect the color for instance, if you are painting over a yellow wall that will impact the color white it is important to test the paint colors at different times of day and in various areas of the space being painted if you are updating your floor finish as well you will want to test paint samples along side, the new flooring because the reflection off of the flooring can affect the colors on your walls.
Q WILL YOUR 3D REPLICA OF MY ROOM BE EXACT? CAN I SEE IT FROM MULTIPLE ANGLES?
A. ) we do our best to make the 3-D design as possible as close to possible to your real space your photos and measurements or what allow us to create the most exact replica of your room. Blueprints are always very helpful. The 3-D image may be missing to smaller details such as a molding, detail and air vent a door knob, but we do our best to bring your room to life as much as possible without ever standing in it it will definitely be realistic enough to give you an idea of how the design will look in your room. We provide at least one view of your space within our 3-D package. We pick the angle that has the most encompassing view of your space. If another angle is needed to show an area in that design, we may add in an additional move board or 3-D image we will make that determination on a room by room basis.
Q.) HOW DO I BEST MEASURE MY ROOM/SPACE?
A.)We will give you all the guidelines for this when we send over your questionnaires. We promise, we are really thorough. If you have blueprints of any kind, send those as well. If we are missing an angle or find there is a measurement that is specific to your home, we will reach out and ask for it. We will be making selections based on your measurements so we want you to take your time and be as thorough as possible.
PLEASE NOTE, IF WE ARE CREATING A 3D DESIGN FOR YOU, MORE EXACT MEASUREMENTS ARE NEEDED TO CREATE YOUR SPACE IN 3D SO WE WILL REQUIRE UTILIZING THE MEASUREMENT GUIDE FOR THESE PACKAGE :) That may require a little more guidance from us once we get the pictures of your home but we will be there to help you .
Q.) ARE THERE ANY ROOMS YOU DO NOT DESIGN?
A.) No. But we are very clear that our 3D designs for spaces such as kitchens should only be used to gather a solid concept of the space and are not to be used by contractor for anything but that . We do not guarantee drawings to be used as true measurements for ordering of cabinets, countertops, flooring, etc.
Q. Can I do all of this work myself once you send me selections?
A.) That would depend on what we included in the design and your skill level. Sometimes we have clients more than capable of installing their own wallpaper, painting their own home or changing a faucet. Only you know if you can or not. We give you a great visual with the selections but only a licensed plumber, electrian or general contractor should be responsible for installing some items in the design, especially if it can cause harm or damage to you or your home. In no way are we saying you should do it yourself.

- Additional selection options- we usually include two for most designs. However, some clients want 4 or even 5 selections. Pricing determined by design scope.
- Add another room virtual design (discount of 10% for 3+ rooms, 15% for 6+ rooms)
- Additional time with your designer, including emails and phone calls. 225.00 per hour. Phone calls must be scheduled in advance and emails will be replied to at earliest convenience.
- 3D drawings for your design. 750.00 per space unless additional drawings needs/requested. (must purchase virtual interior design plan to add this option, it is not a stand alone item or available with mini design package. ) Please note this may add time onto your design timeline, possibly a few weeks.

1. PRELIMINARY DESIGN QUESTIONNAIRE so we can learn about you, your home and your wishlist.
2. 30 MINUTE VIDEO CALL: to discuss one room in your home. With one of our designers (Andrea or Kimberly)
3. We will send you the guide to measure your space and gather information about the home. We will ask for at least 4 photos of your room, depending on the design need. If there are existing pieces to be incorporated in, we need measurements and photos.
(If you have blue prints, we would love to see them! )
4. YOUR PERSONAlIZED DESIGN PRESENTATION
*2D plan with notes regarding details and directions, laid out for your room and plan floor plan
(up to 500 sq. ft.)
or your exterior design
selections for elevation of your home.
*Paint color and color palette suggestions
*Furniture, lighting, rugs, lamps, etc as listed in agreement, suggestions- usually 2/3 per item (with links so you can purchase yourself )
*If we are making builder selections, we will have these in your presentation.
*Your design presentation will be delivered in a beautiful digital presentation
*Estimated timeline is 3 weeks, depending on depth of design from time we receive information back from you and our schedule but will be arranged at time of agreement.
5. DESIGN PRESENTATION CALL: to review your presentation with your designer for about 30 minutes.
6. Follow up call to review any questions you may have about where something might look better or what else might be needed. Sometimes it can be harder to style a shelf than it looks! (30 min approximately, to be scheduled when you have procured items in the room and need last minute advice.)
Furniture presented can be purchased through retailers. Client will be responsible for ordering, assembling and inspecting products. If item requires professional installation, Sutton Place Design is not responsible for installation or liable for installers. If room design is for kitchen or bath, and there are specific vendors required, we need to know that before design is started. Once design agreement is started, the terms will be adhered to. (We are reasonable people and probably will change a three holed faucet to a single holed faucet because stuff happens. You can't order a blue living room and change it to a yellow bathroom! That really happened or I wouldn't have to say it! )
