What You Can Ask:
- Design Dilemmas: Not sure how to arrange furniture in a small living room? Struggling with lighting options for a dark hallway?
- Remodeling Guidance: Should you take off the entire roof to bring a beam into the attic? How do you know?
- Styling Tips: Wondering how to mix patterns or create a cohesive color palette?
We’re here to provide clear, actionable advice tailored to the common questions that come our way on a regular basis.
Why We’re Introducing This Feature
Over the years, our team has worked with hundreds of clients on everything from complete home renovations to single-room makeovers. One thing we’ve noticed is the sheer number of questions that repeatedly pop up along the way.
While everyone loves a beautifully finished project, the process of getting there can be daunting without guidance. We believe no one should feel stuck or uncertain about the steps to creating a home they love. That’s where Ask the Designer comes in.
How It Works : Getting Expert Guidance for Your Design and Remodeling Questions

While we may not always give you an exact solution (you will have to look at the white paint samples in your own space to decide the best one!) we can help you find a path to get there.
2. We’ll Answer on the Blog
We’ll feature your question in an upcoming blog post, where we’ll provide guidance to that nagging question . Each post may include examples and while the answer will most likely be general to help guide anyone with the same problem, it should point your where you need to go so you aren’t just aimlessly searching and paralyzed but too much information!
3. Receive Expert Advice
Get ready for an answer that points you in the direction of the best design rule, advice or an example to help guide you .
Real-Life Examples of How We Can Help
1. From Blank Slate to Beautiful
Question: “I just moved into a new home and have no idea where to start. Should I focus on furniture, paint, or something else?”
Answer: In this case, we’d guide you to make a plan before anything else. Think about your space, how you will use it, the priority of steps (“it is easier to match paint to furniture than furniture to paint” OR ” if you have a blank space and want neutral walls, paint before you moive everything in so it feels fresh and your home is not chaotic once you are living there.” BOTH are real answers but which applies to you? )
2. Small Spaces, Big Impact
Question: “Why doesn’t the paint I selected for my bedroom walls look like the sample ?”
Answer: First off, it is never an exact. We HIGHLY recommend you put a sample in your room (a big one, not that tiny chip from the paint store) and look at it against your floors, your furniture , during the day and at night. If you did that and it still looks different, there are some major things that could be affecting it. First off, what did you paint over and did you prime it? If it was a dark color (think forest green or navy blue) and you are trying to go white, it may have needed a primer first. Next, what is the sheen? A higher reflective sheen will act as a mirror for what is in the space, bouncing those undertones all over the room including adjoining walls. Lastly , and this is a big one, what kind of lighting is in the room ? If your light bulbs are a cold fluorescent color , a warm white may look odd or a white paint may look blue or green. we often find this last one to frequently occur with our clients.
3. Renovation Roadmap
Question: “I’m planning to remodel my kitchen, but I don’t know how to prioritize the budget. What should I focus on?”
Answer: Our advice would center on investing in durable, timeless materials for the cabinetry and countertops while exploring affordable yet stylish options for hardware and lighting. Look at inspiration pictures that feel like your home and your style and see what you like, Usually a pattern will start to pop up. Avoid really trendy selections (HIGH GLOSS BLACK IS NOT FOR EVERYONE EVEN THOUGH IT LOOKS GORGEOUS IN A MAGAZINE) and start making your list. Know what you can and want to spend and plan on about 20% cushion for unknowns such as electrical or plumbing challenges you can’t see until you get into it. Also, have all of your planning done because time really is money in this case. Every extra trip a plumber or electrician makes or ordering the wrong thing and having to reorder can add up quickly. That is why we always Start with a Design Plan for our clients and have it ready before the construction begins.
